Hope It Floats offers a select number of canoe models. Each model can be customized to meet the needs of each person. We work together to make your dreams float.

Our boats are comprised of stringers, ribs, keel, gunnels, etc. We use specific woods for each part based upon their unique requirements. Here is a breakdown of the woods we use:

Stringers: Clear Pine, Cedar

Ribs: Ash, White Oak

Keelson, Keel, Gunnels: Hard Woods (Oak, Maple, Poplar), and Clear Pine

Thwart: (Be creative) Hard Woods. (Curly Maple, Hard Maple, Birds Eye Maple, Oak, Mahogany, etc,)

Solo Models

Each solo model is designed to accommodate one person and some gear. The paddler sits on the floor similar to a kayak. This offers the best stability for these small boats. Either a kayak paddle or canoe paddle can be used.

Jester ("An unemployed jester is nobodies fool.")

It may be our smallest boat but she can carry a lot of weight for her size.

This is our kids boat. Each child in my family has once of these little beauties. I have also built this boat with kids at the elementary school I work for. Just like most of our boats you sit on the floor and paddle. This will greatly improve stability and reduce wind drag. It is one of our lightest boats that we make. The lightest we had made this was 10 lbs. with Dacron fabric.

  • Length 7 - 10'
  • Beam: 30"
  • Weight: between 10 - 20 lbs. (depends on skin material used and length of boat)
  • Displacement: up to 150 lbs normally (However in protected water I was able to paddle around with 4" of free board above the water, 235 lbs.)

Shire  (Made in New Hampshire)

The Shire (foreground) is a rounded bottom canoe that offers a great amount of stability. Paddled from the floor (similar to a kayak) the paddler has plenty of maneuverability and stability. This has been my go to boat for fishing the ponds and lakes of New Hampshire.

  • Length: 12 - 13'
  • Beam: 34"
  • Weight: 15 - 25 lbs (depending on the skin material)
  • Displacement: 275 lbs.

This is a great little canoe for those who like a stable platform for fishing or photography.

  • Length: 11'
  • Beam: 34"
  • Weight: between 20 - 30 lbs (depends on skin selection)
  • Displacement:  approx. 275 lbs.

Solo / Tandem

These boats can be paddles either as a solo (larger paddler) or as a tandem (smaller paddlers). These boats weigh less than 50 lbs and can carry up to 400 lbs.

The Lakesider is a versital canoe. It can be paddles as a solo from the center position or paddled as a tandem.

  • Length: 14'
  • Beam; 32"
  • Weight: 25 - 35 lbs. (depending on skin material)
  • Displacement: approximately 400 lbs.

Water Dragon

This is a true tandem canoe. You can add seats if you want or paddle from the floor similar to a kayak for greater stability.

  • Length: 16'
  • Beam: 32"
  • Weight: 30 - 45 lbs. (depending on skin material)
  • Displacement: 450 lbs.
